Excellent!, September 19, 2002

I know how most people these feel about 2D, side scrolling fighting games... "oooh I hate them because they're so early 90's and you can't rotate anywhere and blah blah blah blah". O.k., first off, shut your mouth and listen up because Capcom Vs. SNK is easily the best 2D fighter on any system that I've seen.

Now don't get me wrong, I love most 3-D Fighting games but there are so many of them now and all of which are very similar that it gets so annoying and then you end up saying "no more fighting games" and that's not good. Capcom Vs SNK takes the concept of SNK's very popular "King of Fighters" series and mixes it up with "Street Fighter" graphics, action and gameplay. The first time they combined the 2, I almost laughed thinking that the expections wouldn't live up to the hype. And I was wrong now I still can't put this game down.

Another reason I like this game so much is because you really don't have to use special moves all the time just like in the original Street Fighter 2. Sure it's nice to use them and they look so much better, now along with the new and improved Super Specials, this game has a lot more going for it. After all, that's one of the drawbacks (in my opinion), to games like Tekken and Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. You get beat down miserably if you can't do any of the characters techniques or special moves and yet, the Capcom and SNK games still give you a fair edge because for the most part, the characters are a little more even and each character has his or her own defining points.

Speaking of which, there are a lot more characters and the combination of teams that you can build is almost endless (Try my favorite: TEAM CHEAP that consists of Ryu, Terry Bogard and Sagat or Joe Higashi. Trust me you won't lose). Don't even think about it, just get this game. Happy Gaming!

The news on "Capcom vs. SNK 2", September 9, 2002
Reviewer: Antonio Mosso from Washington, DC United States
Good news:
-Interesting gameplay
-More characters

Bad news:
-Still doesn't make as much sense as Marvel vs. Capcom 1 or 2
-They(the characters) also don't fight as fast nor as powerful as the ones on Marvel vs. Capcom 1 or 2(Maybe some)

Weird news:
-Will they actually bring the entire Capcom and SNK families to the show?
-Can they make the moves more interesting and organized just like in Marvel vs Capcom?(For example, Ryu's Shinku Hadouken and Ken's Shinryuken are a whole lot better in Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2 than they are here)

Final news:
I think that this is a really cool game as a whole. But they could make some sense out of it. If they added Strider, Hayato, Hanzo, Andy or anyone else but no more Street Fighters and King of Fighters and the switching, assisting, team up attacks, and the really insane super moves, this would be a perfect game.

Capcom is back on the rise!, August 24, 2002
Reviewer: agentsection31 from Las Vegas, Nevada United States
This is a great fighting game, one out of the five-peat Capcom scored this past few years (Project Justice, aka Rival Schools 2, was great, although hard-to-find in US arcades and only on Dreamcast. Street Fighter Alpha 3 was what the first two should have been. Ditto for Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. And, of course, that OTHER versus game, which we will get into later). First, be aware that Capcom vs. SNK is really Street Fighter versus Fatal Fury with a few extra characters tossed in for good measure. This is one of the minor problems I have with this game. The character depth isn't what it should be. I don't really know much about SNK outside of the fighting games so I won't comment, but Capcom could have dumped some of the Shotokans and the obligatory "fat and useless" characters like Zangief for, above all things, more characters from Rival Schools. Kyosuke is represented in 2-D glory here, and Batsu and Hinata make guest appearances, but I want more. Any Capcom fan has a special place in his/her heart for Rival Schools. On top of that, I disagree with most people that Mega Man should be in this game because he makes more sense in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (ditto Morrigan, who is in both games but only should belong in the other one). I think the real problem is that only one versus series should have ever happened. They're both good, but the characters selections have to be limited because while Capcom can jack up storylines all they want, they do care about continuity. Which brings me to another problem. Ryu and Ken are their Alpha selves in Marvel vs. Capcom, yet are SF3 here. So, when they were more inexperienced fighters they could throw massive fireball beams but they can't now? And, in this game, some people look like they're from SF3, some from Alpha, it's really more confusing than usual, even for Capcom. Graphics are another problem. The backgrounds are amazing, rich, expansive, and detailed. The characters, however, are pixelated. I mean, the first time you see this game, particularly after you've played Marvel vs. Capcom all day, it really hits you. The characters look a little rough. Couldn't Capcom have smoothed them out a little? This game takes less animation to run than Marvel vs. Capcom anyway. And, my finally problem: all those needless grooves. There are six to choose from, but really 99% of all Capcom fans are gonna choose "C" and most SNK fans are gonna choose "S." Those problems aside, this is a great game. The character change system in this game, where you pick their order before every fight and change characters only when one dies, is great for people who are too confused by the craziness of Marvel vs. Capcom 2. The characters are more balanced too (cough, Cable, cough). Overall, I think that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a little funner and easy to learn. But this game has way more depth even with fewer characters, and it's always fun to dispatch button-mashers with Guile without even breaking a sweat:)

This game is ok. It has lots of characters and cn be fun. But 2d fighters arent acceptable anymore. its almost 2003!! Tekken 4 is 3 d, if this game was 3d it would be almost as good as tekken. The last 2d fighter game i liked was ultimate mortal kombat 3 in 1997.

It's good, but I'd wait for Marvel vs Capcom..., August 4, 2002

I like the Capcom games because the controls are always good and it's easy for my younger siblings to play them. The other cool thing about fighting games in general is that the matches do not last long so you can accommodate a large number of players (i.e. kids).

I prefer "Marvel vs Capcom" to "Capcom vs SNK" so if you can wait until that comes out, get that game instead. Otherwise, "Capcom vs SNK" makes for a good party/holiday gathering game.
