Twisted Metal: Black pushes the envelope in terms of graphics, gameplay, and content. It's a tremendous game, but parents should keep in mind that it carries a Mature rating from ESRB and its content may be unsuitable for younger players. Gamers old enough to handle it will be treated to a must-have game for the PlayStation2. Twisted Metal: Black is one of the best-looking games on the market. The character design, animations, particle effects, and lighting effects are all topnotch, yet the game still runs at a speedy frame rate--even in multiplayer modes. The game isn't all about looks though, as gameplay is very deep and contains several modes. You'll want to play single-player story mode several times just to see how the game ends for its numerous compelling characters. Each character has a story line that's simple yet captivating. More importantly, each of the characters' vehicles has meaningful differences, so players are bound to find a rig that fits their playing styles. With its slick gameplay, interesting characters, wide variety of modes, and breathtaking graphics, Twisted Metal: Black is the best vehicular combat game yet, and, so far, the best PlayStation2 game of the year. --Raymond M. Padilla Pros: Incredible graphics Deep gameplay Strong replay value Cons: Controls can be tricky at first Boss fights can be frustrating Amazon.com Product Description: This vehicular combat game brings the original developers of the popular Twisted Metal series back for a dark, eerie installment for the PS2. This version will have new weapons, veteran and rookie drivers, weather effects, and night driving. Customer Reviews: The series that started it all is back in stride, November 18, 2002 Reviewer: Jack Connolly from Cleveland, USA My goodness! This has to best of the series edging out TM2 in my opinion. Very fast, handles great and has a *really* fun 4 man multiplayer. There are about 15 different characters(including Sweet Tooth!) and about 11 levels for single player and 18 for multiplayer, so there is alot variety. Some levels are compact and some aremassive, like the Suburbia level for example. Dont ask me how they did it, but they made this game run at an almost perfect 60fps at all times, even with realtime weather conditions on some levels with pouring rain and heavy snow. Thats unbelievable considering all the particle explosion effects, players and landscape this title shows all on screen at once, with no noticeable fog in the background......amazing. The Soundtrack is sweet. Its very dyanamic as well. For example, when there is alot of action on screen, the music will get louder and play more riffs, but for those couple quiet moments, the music will dim down a bit and make things peaceful. It adds so much to the game, espescially i you have a Dolby Surround sound system. The destruction and speed of this game compliments this series really well, taken to the next level with the better technology obviously. The particle effects are amazing and the maneuvers, handling and physics are extremely polished. It is a little difficult but not enough to get frustrated, well maybe sometimes, but definitely challenging. Thankfully there are cheats you can use if its gets too hard. The multiplayer is also a blast. 2 or 4 player splitscreen and stil runs at 60 fps most of the time, even in 4 player! I mean it, this is the most enjoyable multiplayer game I've played in a while. Lot of unlockables, CG stories for each character, short load times, very slick menus and sweet music. There's really nothing I can gripe about. This is THE best car combat game on the market. Again, welcome back Incognito, you made the TM series great once again. Buy it! Best of the series!, November 16, 2002 Reviewer: Jack from GA, USA My goodness! Again, welcome back Incognito, you made the TM series great once again. Buy it! Twisted Metal: Black, November 6, 2002 Reviewer: matt from New York Twisted metal black wasn't as good as Twisted III. The graphics are awsome and levels huge but there are some flaws as well. Like the firing system is very complicated, two, the computer playes are very tough and turning down the level of dificulty doesn't help vey much! I bought because it was cheap, but it just sits on my shelf most of the time! A huge disappointment..., November 3, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from Wisconsin This game is exremely overrated. The plot was patheticley corny. The controls were diffucult and sometimes confusing. The graphics were below average for a PS2 game. If you enjoyed the other Twisted Metal games prepare to be let down hard. The multi-player is far from good. The backgrounds all seemed to be the same. Please do yourself a favor and rent this game before you buy it. Then you can see how bad it really is. :( A terrible disaappointment..., November 3, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from Wisconsin The game is very overrated. If you bought the other Twisted Metals don't buy this one. It has a very poor plot. The plot is about a bunch of maniac losers trying to blow each others cars up. The controls are difficult and rather confusing. The graphics are below average for a PS2 game. I was very disappointed in this game. The best Twisted Metal ever!, October 27, 2002 Reviewer: tucatspt from Maryland This is the best twisted metal game ever. The graphics are wonderful and the weapons are extreme. In the story mode go through 8 levels of pure war! Then in multiplayer mode you have the coop where you and another person play against the game in 8 levels. You can also play against each other in this game. The game can have up to 4 players! Great game, still worth $ to me. Creepy, Dark . . great!!, October 25, 2002 Reviewer: Seth Klumb from wisconsin I've been a twisted metal fan since I played the first a bunch of years ago with a friend, ended up renting part 2 & 3 and buying part 4 the day it came out, when I herd about twisted metal: black,...I ended up Renting one, with the game, and I must say, you couldn't even see this in a horror movie! the story is simple . . a bunch of maniacs from an asylum, all have there own flaws,...they all compete in the "twisted metal circus" where they compete to the death and get one wish they want! with cars suched as a blood caked ice-creme truck, a hurse, a war truck and more! forget your past TM games, and get this! disturbing, creepy, gothic, you need it! a 4\4 star game I WONDER WHY THE RATED IT MATURE, October 6, 2002 Reviewer: CEDRIC from ARUBA DUTCH CARIBBEAN BORING LIKE HELL !! THATS A CHILD GAME!! Excellent!, September 24, 2002 Reviewer: Elbert Batica from St Paul, MN United States Twisted Metal Black has to be the best of this series (so far). The graphics are excellent, the gameplay is awesome (never the same twice) and the boards make this game very challenging. Honestly, you can't get bored playing this game. I will admit unless you change the controls, they can be a little [hard] at first but after you get the hang of the default settings, it's not so bad. Really this is a must get if you don't have it. I wouldn't call this a racing game. I would consider this more of a Fighting game almost because that's truly the aspect of the game. Again, get this one. Happy gaming! Black...same old...same old thing., September 7, 2002 Reviewer: Robert Eldridge, Author from Garden City, South Carolina USA I'm going to forego my usual in-depth reviews for this game. We all know what Twisted Metal is and this is nothing more than a rehash of those same games. Here's why: Pros: Excellent Graphics Cool Mini-movies Endurance & Challenge levels are interesting Good to pass time with Cons: Short game with small levels Repetitious gameplay Boring endings to each character Same old rehash of earlier TM games Not enough "total-destruction" of buildings and such for this type of game. If you want to be "burned-out" by a game, I recommend "Burnout, Test Drive, and Twisted Metal: Black." Not worth the money. |
