Customer Reviews: Looks great but too easy to beat., December 5, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from orlando, fl USA My feelings about this game are really mixed. The graphics are phenomenal but the game itself was a bit too cartoonish for my tastes and was so easy to beat. This game is ideally suited for ages 7-11. For that age group, this game would be a great choice. If you are over 12, rent it but save your money and buy something more challenging and with greater replayability. Entertaining, November 30, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from DE United States A game for the whole family. Challenging enough for the kids, but not too easy. BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!, November 30, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from Tigard, Oregon United States this was one of the best games i have ever played! it's action packed with many beautiful levels to explore, not to mention dodging lasers, gangsters, and guards, while collecting jewels, and obtaining clues to get new moves. one of my favorite moves i recieved was the INVISIBLE move where you could sneek right in front of the guards faces.it's great.another great move i recieved was the FAST move, where you can move faster than normal, speeding up the game play. not to mention it is very annoying when you fall off a platform and you have to "redo" getting back up there, well the FAST move lets you get back up there in no time.this game has about five levels, each with about 8 levels inside of those! I was amazed at how many levels there were. I'm a gamer who beats games in less than a week(besides the zelda games), so if you beat games fast, i would just rent this. but i barely finished this before i had to return it. I couldn't take my eyes off this game.this is the BEST GAME EVER!buy this buy this buy this!trust me you won't be sorry you bought it! good platformer, November 29, 2002 Reviewer: Ronald A. Powell from Woodville, Texas United States I love this game. This is a good platformer. One of the best platform games out there. Its a must buy.I liked every level of this game. But its a pretty short game though. But thats ok becouse its still fun.A must buy. Good Times, November 27, 2002 Reviewer: Gregory E Rushlow from Saint Petersburg, FL United States If you got some time to use, use it on this game. Man, the graphics are great (cell shaded), game play is very responsive, camera angles are never tiring. Use of Binoculars with a zoom for the character is an awesome touch. If you like platformers, or never tried one (Jak and Dexter, Crash Bandicoot) you will love this game. I find myself going back for more...unlike some games that can get frustrating or just boring after awhile. Backgrounds are funny also, if you get the game, the paradies that are played are hillarious. Sly Cooper makes Racoons look good, November 21, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from USA When I fist played this game I thought. "A racoon as a Thief? Wel they do knockover your garbage cans at night so they are pretty sneaky, But he's a thief and he has a cane? Where's his knife?" Many things did not fit the regular stereotype in this game but thats what makes it so great. The action was cleaver and you feel agile and cool while Sly goes jumping and sliding around on screen. And the Boss battles were varied and creative ans well as some missions that changed your roles so that the gameplay is not too repetitive. Great game that is unforgetable and worth the money. sly rocks!!!, November 18, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from Riverhead, New York USA this game ROCKS!!! when i got it for my birthday i played it all night!!! you face bad guys, and steal back your family's sacred diary, the thevius raccoonus. you battle bosses, Sir Raleigh, Muggshot, Mz. Ruby, The Panda King, and Clockwerk. they are probably coming out with a sly cooper 2 because at the end you see Clockwerk's red eye flash on, so he's not dead. i love this game! An Innovative Platform Game (Who says they don't exist!), November 14, 2002 Reviewer: alankelly from Princess Anne, Maryland United States Sly Cooper was a fine rental that I had to pick up after hearing so much about it in gaming circles. While many others complained about the length of it, I didn't get to finish the game before I took it back so I really can't comment on that aspect. However, I can say that the the time I did spend with it was a blast. I'm not a big fan of cell-shading, but the game looked very good graphically. The storyline was okay, but it really could've been a little better. I really wished that they had chosen a better companion for Sly, as the turtle who kept popping up onscreen with information seemed just a tad bit too "kiddie" for my taste. As expected, I found Sly to be pretty easy to control, and there was plenty to do in each level. I especially enjoyed the special moves that I could earn, as this added some depth to the gameplay instead of the stale platform games that exist in the market today (we all know what they are) My initial reaction to the difficulty level of this game was that it was kind of easy. I breezed through the levels pretty fast during my initial runs. Looking back however, I see that missed some of the "clues" of the game that I was supposed to obtain. Had I taken the time to collect all of these (as any hard-core gamer worthy of the title should aim to do), I'm sure the game would've been more challenging to me. In the end, this is one of those many games that I really hated to take back to the video store. Even if platform games really are not your style, give it a try. You'll probably like it. Platformer Heaven, November 8, 2002 Reviewer: A gamer from Chicago Sly Cooper turned out to be one a great surprise for me. I am an adult gamer who loves platform games and this set a new level for game structure. The controls are perfect, the game play is captivating and it's not the same old thing level after level. But it was the cell shaded graphics that really did it. The game is simply beautiful. I could go on and on but just put it in and see for yourself. This is a great game for adults as well as kids. It is moderately challenging with many different types of gameplay and minigames. I don't typically write reviews but I do base most of my purchases on them so I felt I needed to add my two cents. You will not regret buying this game. They are already making the second and I cannot wait. My only complaint, and its small because everything else made up for it, was the game is somewhat short. But I'm hopeful they will lengthen the second without just adding tediousness. On a side note, those of you out there with real quality opinions, please start reviewing more games. Those who do; thanks, your reviews have helped me many times. I'm tired of 11 year olds writing all the reviews; not to mention those who like to slam games with one sentance. Explain why you don't like it. And check your spelling and grammar! Back to the basics., November 7, 2002 Reviewer: sporkdude from Newark, Ca This game is a very, very simple platform game. But it's also pretty darn good. The cell shading graphics are simply amazing, and the gameplay is consistent, fun, and easy to begin with. It's a little platform game that combines elements of stealth and action. Sort of like Metal Gear Solid 2, but actually fun. This game is a short game. It means that maybe they could have added another element, but it also means that there isn't needless repetition in any of the levels, except for the last boss. You are this raccoon from a long line of thieving relatives. You're mission is to find all parts of the secret family thieving book, all while running away from a female cop who is constantly on your tail (I'll let you decipher the meaning of that sentence yourself). The thing that strikes me most is the presentation of the characters. While the background consists of 3-D objects, the characters are smooth, cartoon like, cell-shaded animals. It's a nice change. It's especially pleasing since the new, unreleased Zelda is going to use this type of "revolutionary" technology. The game itself is straightforward. You have to jump, attack, and sneak your way through levels to eventually reach a boss. Then once you realize how to defeat the boss, it's on to the next level. Nothing original at all, but then again, it didn't claim to be. The beauty of this is that you rarely go through the same level more than three times, and you don't have to refer to walkthrough to pass any of the levels. I would recommend this, it's good, clean fun. |
