It is So COOOL!, November 21, 2002

This game is awesome! It is so real. I live on the outer banks and the waves are nothing like they are in this game but it is like your riding the wave. I loved it!...

I dont think that there is much question that this is the best surfing game out. And why shouldnt it be? The graphics are fantastic, there's plenty of options, the soundtrack is great, and there's a ton of beaches to surf.

You start out on your surf boat, with the option of several different surf modes. The career mode is clearly what most people will be interested in. You just choose your surfer, and you're off to the beaches. The gameplay will keep you busy for a while, and learning all of the moves will prove addictive. Luckily, it doesnt take as long as I had thought to master it. You travel from wave to wave after completing a specified set of goals for each particular beach (eg score 100,000 points, run over windsurfers). Even though each beach is for the most part the same, it's nice to see some variety in the setting.

I loved the cutscenes for each beach, Kelly Slater narrates a short video on each one. There is also an awesome, much longer surf video to watch from the main screen.

The main problem with this game is that the replayability is low. I conquered all of the beaches in career mode in about 5 days...after that, there isn't much left to do. I ended up returning it after I concluded that I probably wouldn't be playing it much from that point on. Overall, this game is great, but the limitations of a surfing game only warrant it as a rental.

its fun but i played the thps4 demo more, October 21, 2002

rented this a few weeks ago. i found myself playing the thps4 demo more than the game. The game is fun on levels of realism i dont know how real it is...i dont surf. I just feel like there is something missing in this game...nothing could keep my attention in it for long

This game is OK, but..., October 10, 2002

This games have cool graphics, the waves are really amazing and realistic. But the motion of the characters are very square. I sincerely prefer the motion of surfers in TWS.

Gameplay of this games is so close to Sunny Garcia Surging than Transworld Surf. The control are very complex and the motion of in the tricks are not natutal.

The other bad point refer to the position in the beach. You always stay at the same point, the wave never end and never see the shore. You never select the wave or paddle to it.

In my opinion (I'm surfing for 11 years), Kelly Slater Pro Surfer is a cool game, excellent graphics and details, but TWS represent more the surfing sport (except for the stupid goals).

very impressive, September 24, 2002

Unlike the other "reviews" on this site, I have actually played this game. Just so you know.

First off, the graphics and action on Kelly Slater are TOP NOTCH. In fact flawless is the best word to describe how this game plays. The movements by the surfer, the ocean, aquatic life, sounds, etc, all mix together in one smooth package.

I don't know much about surfing as I have always leaned towards the skateboarding side of the fence, but this game is super easy to get into despite a lack of knowledge about the sport. I can only guess that the tricks are an accurate representation of what surfers these days are pulling; personally I didn't know surfers did flip tricks on their boards, but maybe they do.

All in all, if you enjoy the Hawk series of games but want a different type of challenge, then go pick up this game.

Buy Transworld Surf, September 23, 2002

I was really excited about this title, and went right out to buy it on first release. I am seriously dissapppointed in the lack of diversity in waves and lack of flow in the gameplay...Do not make the mistake I did. Keep Ripping. REal waves are better anyway.

No power surfing. No Jay Hodge boards in game.

Transworld Surf is left in the whitewash, September 21, 2002

First of all, everyone who wrote about this game before they even played it is an imbecile. Anyway - This game is really good. The graphics are way smoother than Transworld Surf (TWS). Also, the game seems more fluid tha TWS. I like the fact that even when you go into the tube you can come out of it without falling - just like surfing. The intro videos are actual video footage and Kelly Slater adds commentary to each one about the location. While this game deserves 5 stars, there are a few things i do not like. One of which is that you must complete the required task in order to obtain a new level. Another thing is that i have not been able to get a good handle on how to do a floater everytime. Overall, this game beats out TWS. If you are a serious surfer, i would reccommend getting both, since both are fun, but KSPS is the must-have sports title of 2002!

Endless fun, September 20, 2002
Reviewer: bingdaddy from Seattle, WA
The thing about KSPS is that unlike Tony Hawk or Matt Hoffman, this game is not about the fastest button combo's or the biggest airs. Like surfing itself this game is really about being one with the wave, expressing your style and pushing the limits. No other sports game can offer that! The graphics are awesome and the gameplay is smooth. The controls are difficult at first but very comfortable after 20 minutes or a quick run through the mandatory tutorial. I would recommend this game to anyone that likes the idea of surfing but can't get to a local wave.... this game is the closest thing. Also, dropping back in and riding in the barrel is unbelievable!
