Amazon.com: The best extreme-sports game ever gets even better in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. The elements that made the last two games a success are back: tight controls, deep trick system, a wide selection of skaters (including Tony Hawk, Bucky Lasek, Rodney Mullen, Chad Muska, Elissa Steamer, and others), and a slick soundtrack (featuring the Ramones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Motorhead, KRS-One, Redman, and more). Adding to the already brilliant formula is a new trick, updated graphics, and Internet play.

In Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, players were introduced to the manual--a move that greatly revolutionized the series' gameplay. This installment introduces the revert, and while it isn't as significant an addition as the manual, it does add another layer to the already deep trick system. The game features solid graphics, but a level of detail was sacrificed in order to make the game's levels so large. There are a few frame skips and polygon clips, but these occasions are rare and do not overshadow the stellar gameplay.

Career mode is as deep as ever, with eight objective-filled levels. In this single-player mode, players traverse their way through some brilliantly designed courses to achieve high scores, find the letters to the word "skate," find hidden videotapes, and interact with level-specific objects. Two players can participate in the five multiplayer minigames, which include king of the hill, horse, and trick attack. Up to four players can join Internet or LAN games through the use of the PS2 Network Adapter or numerous USB devices. Supported USB Ethernet adapters include LinkSys EtherFast USB100TX, D-Link DSB-650TX, SMC EZNET-USB 2102, and SOHOware NUB100. Supported USB modems include Zoom FaxModem 2985L, Pocket NetSurfer NMT00700, MultiTech MT5634ZBA, and Actiontec USB56012-01CW. USB keyboards are also supported, enabling players to type trash online.

We tested Internet play using the LinkSys and a DSL modem; the action was very smooth with no noticeable lag. On its own, this is a top-shelf title, but considering its Internet capabilities, there's no reason for fans of sports, action, and platform games not to own Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3. This game will satisfy them all. --Raymond M. Padilla

Pros:
First Internet-capable PS2 game
Tight, addictive, outstanding gameplay
Gargantuan levels and plenty of objects to interact with

Cons:
Some minor graphics glitches

Outdated, but still the best Skatebording game around., November 30, 2002

This game was made over 1 year ago. It has average graphics (nothing to show off here). However the gameplay more than makes up for the visual dissapoinment. You can create your own skatepark, and play throughout the many pre-made levels. If you beat certain levels you can select new skateboards. Overall this is a great game....

Fun but not perfect, November 27, 2002

I found this game very fun but I have the following complaints:

1.The career mode is boring(I just enter a code so I can freeskate every level.
2.The level designs are bad for certain levels(tokyo)
3.It is loaded with annoying booby traps which make you crash(thay are also placed in great skater spots).
4.Rather than having walls your character is just put back at the start(Just stupid)
But the revert is cool and so is the music, so I guess I will give it a good score.

Tony Hawk is a long line of great video games. They always have been great. They are strategy games, but are great fun. You get tasks that you have to complete and when you complete enough of them you move on to the next level. There is a great park editor; you can do almost anything with it there are tons of different boxes, pipes, bowls, tables, and ramps. There is so much you can do with the "Park Editor". One thing I don't like about the editor is in Tony Hawk 2 you can get a 30 by 60 area to build your park but in Tony Hawk 3 the largest you can have is a 30 by 30 and it fills up fast. I have made about 20 parks. The "Create a Skater" mode is great too; there are literally billions of combinations for what you can do with each skater. The graphics are great though could be improved. It is a great buy but if you have the money get Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 instead.

Addictive!!, November 13, 2002

For twenty bucks, this is one of the best games you can buy next to Gran Turisom 3. You get blisters it's so addictive. Graphics still look great for a game that's a year old. Just goes to show that the playstation 2 still has teeth. Levels aren't too simplistic so that there is lots of challenge to it. The level of customization on players and gear is funny as hell. Tony Hawk wearing a cowboy hat or beer cap is just too much. This game rocks!!

FS 1080 Melon over the hip? When did this happen?, November 6, 2002

Ok, I would like to say that the game starts off really fun, and exciting, but at the end it starts to get lame as yo gain stat points. You will eventually have a fully upgraded character and will be able to do tricks so impossible, it takes the fun out of the game! I think there should be a Tony Hawk Am Skater, where gravity is actually in play, and you have to learn your tricks.

Ok, just to be straight-forward, this games blows. This is the worst Tony Hawk game they have made yet. The graphics totally [stink], the goals are pointless, and the create-a-skater is too limited and truely horrible. If you haven't already, DO NOT waste your hard earned money on this piece of junk. I hope the makers do a better job on Tony Hawk 4.

Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 = Best game ever, October 23, 2002

This game is the greatest game ever!!! If you put a skateboarding game and combine it with an RPG you get THPS3. It is challenging but a fun experience. It's not only a skateboarding game. You have "goals" to complete, using real skateboarders, or other characters such as; Darth Maul, Wolverine and a created skater. My kids won't stop playing it and im sure you or you kids won't either. This is the perfect gift for any gamer.

bad bad game!, October 14, 2002

neversoft has gone into absolute fantasy land for this game. this is not a game for skaters anymore. it's just not as fun as thps1 or 2 (which I think are equal in different ways.)

the revert? what the hell is that? The levels are uninspired (could we have some more real world spots?), the skater moves way too fast, the levels are cramped with too much garbage everywhere, there's no gaplist, there are too many inane goals with no skating relevance, and lines are shoved in your face, unlike the previous installments.

this series is now geared toward 12 year olds, and activision is alienating their core audience in favor of a group for whom skateboarding is just a fad.

Best skate boarding game But........................, October 13, 2002
