Save your money for something better, November 12, 2002

Please i am telling you, this game is the worst thing that i have ever played in my life. These other people giving them 5s and 4s were high or drunk because this game [is bad]. I have played many games that were bad but this one is the worst. Don't waste your money on this game, I did and i so hate my self for it. This game has no point to it at all. You run around killing this with no real mission. What kind of game is that, oh also when the boss came up you wouldn't even know that he was the boss. I bet him and then the game was over. Very uncool!! I tried to trade that game in i would of only get [money]. If you are looking for a new game i would wait for a good one. Don't I said don't get this game. Get Devil May Cry thats a good one but just DON'T GET THIS GAME!

this game is awsome but has has some down points to it., November 8, 2002

this game has good graphics and awsome monsters to shap shift to you basicly get levels up by kill opponents and the more levels you gain the more your shapshift bar goes up and the more your shapshift bar your up you will be able to turn into awsome ubeatable creatures but the down side is the missins are long and it takes along time and the loading times are a pain...all round this gaame is pritty good if your into monsters and turn into animals zombies genies and robots you should get this game.

This game is more of a first-person "shooter" than an RPG. The "quests" in the game lack any sort of depth. There is no real reason to follow any of the quests except for the main quest.

Pros:
.... hmmm.... wait.... let me think....
- oh wait I did like some of the spookier environments.
- you can save game anywhere.

Cons:
- Loading level after level is slow
- Game play is very very repetitive
- Shape shifting isn't really that interesting
- Quests don't yield much
- Frequent camera control problems
- Cheats do not let you acquire all the shapes so you have to play thru the extremely dull game to get them.
- Buggy- program froze on me several times.
- Unclear what some of the gatherable items do for you

worst game i have ever played, October 15, 2002

This is the worst game i have ever played. I bought this game with the reviews given here, and let me say that they must of been playing an other game when they where righting their review. This game is boring and not fun at all. The fighting in this game is the worst. You run around and chop things up with a knife. There no real mission in the game. I don't know what the point of the game was. The final battle was very very easy and no point of even trying to bet it. My 4 year old brother could bet the game. The only thing that i could say about this game was that thing the movie part of the game came on the graghics where okay not bad but not the best. If you want to save money don't buy this game. Get FFX

This Epic Game ROCKS!!!, June 29, 2002

This game came outta no where! What a pleasant surprise!!!

I don't know what dreamwarden was looking at when he played this game. I doubt he even played it through. "SHIFTERS" graphic's are as good as any other current PS2 title. The lighting and some of the atmosphereic effects are awesome...way beyond what you'd ever get on a PS1. The combat is actually very diverse because you're always getting a new character to morph, er... SHIFT into throughout the game. The movements of the characters are fluid and dynamic. Knockback and impact animations make combat even more realistic. The spell fx are as good as I've seen anywhere.

The game is huge. That, combined with the ability to choose various character paths such as a fighter or a spell caster enables you to solve the game taking different paths--being subject to different puzzles, enemies, and even different areas of the vast worlds presented in this game.

My only complaint is the story line isn't well depicted in the game, you have to decipher most of your motivation from the manual. And sometimes the AI characters 'fell asleep'...but that was rare. Perhaps that is part of the stealth mode for sneaking up behind your enemy and delivering a single devastatingly fatal blow. But, for me personally, those are minor quips. If you're done with FFX, GTA3, and DMC, then give this one a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

This game gets 10 times more interesting once you hit the other times and get past the medieval land the steampunk is awesome!!!

the quests also get more interesting than go to point a get this and deliver it to point b. so , while that last reviewers review was for the first area , once you get past it , it won't be dissapointing.

A previous-generation game on a next-generation console, May 27, 2002
Reviewer: dreamwarden
Shifters is a third-person adventure game in the mold of Devil May Cry and Grand Theft Auto. The setting is fantasy medieval, and you are in control of a hero who vaguely looks like the protaginist in the recent console Might and Magic game.

The game consists of running around doing quests (take item A from here and deliver it to location B) and killing things. The highlight of the game is the ability of your hero to transform into various animal-like creatures, thus the title "Shifters".

The graphics of the game look like they could have been done on the PSOne. The attacks are uninteresting and don't vary much, despite there being several weapons available. The magic is likewise unimpressive, graphically and functionally. All in all, this is a very bland game.

Bottom Line: Take a pass on this one and pick up something else; the aforementioned Devil May Cry or Grand Theft Auto 3, or even Dynasty Warriors 3. They're all superior to Shifters.
