Amazon.co.uk Review: A sequel which, like its acclaimed predecessor, puts fun right at the top of the agenda, Burnout 2 dispenses with niggling irritants like realism and instead delivers top-class gaming entertainment. So what’s new? Added locations for starters, and the highlights are a twisty road round the Rocky Mountains and an inspired airport-based level. A greater variety of vehicles are available too, and naturally enough you have to balance your need for speed with a vehicle capable of good handling, taking into account the weather and the kind of level you’re racing across.

Yet ultimately, the core of Burnout 2 is still arcade-style racing, and frankly there’s little else that does it better. Burnout 2 is incredibly accessible and an absolute blast to play, whether you’re competing through the suitably enhanced single-player options or hooking up with friends--it’s completely irresistible. Visually, the game looks great and moves very, very quickly. The action too is interspersed with elaborate crashes, and when you do hit something you shouldn’t, at least you’re rewarded with an action replay for your trouble.

Negatives? Genuinely very few. Those who prefer their driving games flavored with a bit more realism are going to be happier with a Gran Turismo game than this, and in spite of some good improvements and additions, there aren’t enormous differences between this and the original, despite the fact that a lot more has been added to it.

These are nothing more than very minor niggles though. Easily one of the most downright enjoyable games of recent times, Burnout 2 is an exemplary piece of gaming entertainment, and a welcome antidote to the growing band of games that just take themselves far too seriously. Treat yourself. You’ll be glad you did. --Simon Brew

Amazon.com Product Description: Burnout 2: Point of Impact is an arcade-style racing game set in six all-new United States-inspired locations, including Los Angeles, the Rocky Mountains, New Mexico, and a busy international airport. There are 32 new stages to drive and 14 all-new vehicles, as well as seven secret vehicles to unlock, including police cars, 1950s hot rods, and stock cars. Realistic weather effects include snow, rain, and fog. You can also take Offensive Driving 101, where you can "learn to burn" from the Burnout Driving School. All-new pursuit races allow players to race a police car and ram opponents off the road, and vehicles can get air and earn boosts by jumping.

Best Car Game Since Gran Turismo 3!, November 24, 2002
Reviewer: Thomas Newman from Taylorsville, KY
Burnout 2 is such a good game. When I got it, I wasn't expecting such good graphics and detail. You start out having to do Offensive Driving 101, and then after completing that, you begin the game. It has a "Crash" mode where the whole point is to rack up collateral damage. There are regular championship races, and when you get all gold medals in a championship, it unlocks a face off, where you race a car for the right to drive it, or a pursuit, where you use a cop car to total the other car so you can race it. After you complete the championships, a new mode opens up called custom chapionship. In that, you race souped up cars in a fast and the furious like manner, especially with the whole nitrous thing. Nitrous plays a big part in Burnout. You get it by dodging cars, drifing, catching air, and driving in oncoming traffic. Burnout's crashes are awsome because car parts fly everywhere and it activates a special camera that plays in slow motion to capture the full terror of the crash. This game is a must-buy for everyone because it is a good single player and multipayer game. You just can't go wrong with Burnout 2.

Crashes are amazing!!!, November 23, 2002

Burnout 2 is one of the best racing games I have ener bought! It was pure geinuess to add pursuit races on the game. I gotta hand it to the developers, this game is freaking awesome! It has so many more cars in the game than the last one. I love that they based the game on The Fast and The Furious. The decked out cars are pretty cool. My favorite car is the green decked out coupe. The crashes just blow away Gran Turismo 3 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. When you unlock the cheats for the game it becomes even better.
Happy Gaming

Pretty Good, November 18, 2002
Reviewer: Jeremy Goldstein from washington, d.c. United States
I just got this game yesterday and it is almost perfect but it can get really annoying when it takes so long to load the games. It is good because you have a scence that you are in the car and you want really drive the car. The one things that they could do to improve Burnout 2 is to use brand-name cars. Instead, they use things like "Roadster" or "Hot Rod". Even what I don't understand is how they came up with the name "Oval Racer". It looks just like a Nascar Race car. All in all, I would buy this game.

Hours of fun!!!, November 18, 2002

I bought this game yesterday and spent a good part of the afternoon playing it. I played the original version of this, but Burnout 2 is much better. The graphics are pretty good and there are different cars and scenes you can choose. There's even a level where the point of the game is to cause accidents. This is a great game for people of all ages.

my new addiction, November 11, 2002

All I can say is that I now have a new vice and a new addiction. This game should be banned for being [addictive]...one who plays this will have to at least play the Crash modes every single day lest they suffer withdrawls.

My wife decided that we should get a racing game to play together since she's not into the sports games like I am. Who knew that you could drive like a maniac, crash into cars to rack up the insurance money costs, and be in tears from laughing at how much fun you're having?!

If you do not own this game yet...go out and get it...do no pass Go, do not collect $200.oo! You will not regret it, I promise. Just don't forget to go to work, eat, sleep, and live alittle...hehe.

16:9 mode, steering wheel support, sharp graphics........, October 24, 2002
Reviewer: A gamer from Tucson, AZ United States
First of all, let me tell you something. I HATE the first Burnout, especially for its horrible and blurry graphic. Then there's question came to my mind, should I try Burnout 2? I finally give it a try, and guess what, I really love it. When I reading the manual, I know that this is a great game. The reasons: 1. This game fully support the Steering Wheel, for those of you who have it, you are in luck. 2. The option for 4:3/16:9 mode, yeah, its a VERY big deal for me (or other people) who have wide screen TV, they should mention this in the ads. 3. For those of you who have HDTV, this game support 480i, I dont know what that's mean.

The graphic is 1000 better than the first one. I use S-video and I do NOT have HDTV, but still, the graphic is clear and no more blurriness, I can see clearly the upcoming traffic. Overall, this is a good game, especially because of 16:9 mode.

Let's make this very simple. This game is hands down the best arcade racer available to date. Take Downforce and use it for a coaster it just doesn't compare to Burnout2. I had pretty low expectations when I brought this home. I was extremely pleased with the fast game play, spectacularly detailed courses in large variety! The graphics are remarkable and I witnessed no slow down during the light speed gameplay. The "Crash" games are fun as all get up, and are a huge bonus to this already fun packed game. forget about the silly and frustrating license nonsense of GT3 or the likes. This game is just plain fun and addicting.

Burnout 2 is an awesome game. The crash mode is definitely the top feature although everything is excellent.

Look out Grand Turismo, October 15, 2002

Burnout 2 is a great game, and it improves on everything the first one did, and is just a little better. The graphics are improved and you can see farther in the game (can't remember the technical term for that) so it makes going fast much cooler so you can see way ahead to know where you're going. They kept the turbo meter, which works well in this one too, and have a good selection of cars. They even added a "Crash" game where you and up to 4 players (using a multitap) can crash your car and see who causes the most amount of damage.

The one thing it took away, which isn't that big a deal, was everytime you wreck it doesnt tell you how much money in damage you caused, which was kind of a neat feature and made you feel like you earned that wreck. I can't give this game 5 stars for the simple reason it doesnt have a solid enough 2 player mode, and lets face it, driving games are so much more fun racing against buddies. It (like the first one)only gives you like 3 tracks to race in 2 player mode, so I definately think they should improve on that, but otherwise a great game!
