this game [stinks]. the time it takes for each match to load is longer than the match itself. i don't know about u, but a fight that only lasts 10 seconds is pretty [dumb]. the controls really [stink] and the graphics [stink] too. do not waste your money. if i saw this game in a bargain bin for [X] i still wouldn't buy it. it has no entertainment value at all.

UFC Throwdown is a decent game. Not really much more to say than that. You either like it or hate it. Graphically, it's pretty basic and sometimes during truly intense match-ups, choppy. Realism is very good. Length of the average match, about 20 seconds. Again, you should rent this if anything else first because I'm sorry but no one deserves a ($) hole in their wallet. Have fun and Happy Gaming!

REALISTIC BUT NOT A GREAT GAME, August 26, 2002

It's true, UFC Throwdown is very realistic, no question. The moves and actual fighting itself is realistic and almost exactly like the UFC matches you see in real life. Here's the problem: What's realistic doesn't always necessarily make for a great video game. Yes, in real life you can KO an opponent with a single punch two seconds into a fight. Yes, in real life you can put one submission hold on someone and take them out in five seconds flat. All that is true. But who wants to play a game like that? Not me. The matches are ridiculously short and end far too quickly. Again, it's realistic, but just not all that much fun to play. As a player, I don't necessarily want a totally unrealistic fighting game either, but why can't they create one that's somewhere in the middle? UFC Throwdown was a perfect opportunity to do just that, and they missed the boat. The UFC may be exciting from a spectator position, but video games are supposed to be exciting from an INTERACTIVE position, and this one, realistic or not, just isn't.

In a nutshell, the dreamcast version is better. I was expecting something new, but it's the same game daddio.

I'd rather watch it on TV, July 26, 2002

One, if not the most unfun games i've ever played. A fight lasts an average of 20 seconds and once it's over, you have to wait for the next fighter to load. There's a lot of downtime between fights. The actual fighting is cool but repetitive. I would recommend renting this one first.

Best fighting game ever!!!!, July 25, 2002

Yes, you can win with one submission, but that's relaistic. Sheesh. Go play a pro wrestling game if you want to put a submission hold on a guy 50 times to win. It only takes once in real life, unlike the soap opera mistakenly referred to as sports entertainment.

Great graphics, incredibly realistic fighting, real life fighters, and the all representing the greatest sport ever! Buy this game.

UFC: Throwdown could have been a lot better in my eyes. Now I will admit that the game was great in some aspects, but it could have been a lot better in others. Here's my info on the game, both on positive and negative aspects.

PROS:
1-Stunning realism. The graphics on the fighters and the Octagon itself, not to mention the entrance and crowd are spectacular. Very real-looking.
2-Detailed roster. The roster is very expansive with around 20 competitors. I've never seen any UFC shows so I can't say who isn't in it and who is.
3-Easy fighting. The fighting is quick and easy to learn, with many signature moves found in UFC.
4-Modes. There are many gameplay modes, from career, exhibition, arcade, and many many others.

CONS:
1-Fighting. Some of this is ridiculous. You can literally apply one submission the whole match and win. Sometimes its too easy to KO people and make them tap out. Other times you can't win (hint hint-if you're a beginner, do NOT take on Dan Severn first, he is a veteran and a hard fighter to beat)
That's all I can really say about this game. If you want some better gameplay I reccommend WWF SmackDown: Just Bring It or WWE SmackDown: Shut Your Mouth, which is coming soon for PS2.

This game has got it all! Arm bars, leg locks, sleeper holds, it even has the famous achillies tendon hold! When i first started to play, the graffics astounded me right off the bat! Then, after a few days of game time, I couldn't put the controler down! I was even late to work on several occasions because of this game being SO addictive! My recommendation, you better have strong willpower to pull yourself away!

A Game For the Fans..............., July 12, 2002

To start off I think this is a great fighting game period. This is to say I like it far better than virtua fighter 4 (the only other fighting game I have for PS2). Its shocking how in depth the fighting system is for all the UFC fighters and for the eight or so different kinds of career fighters you can create(you can very the martial art between levels making the possibilities endless.)

The graphics are definitely high-end(even for a next-gen system), and the load times are reasonably short. The fighting itself is extremely fluid and very fun. ITs best to save often in career mode because once in a rare while the game freezes(at least mine ...

Long time fans will be dissapointed at the abscence of tank abbott, royce gracie, and ken shamrock -- but all in all it offers tens and possibly hundreds of hours of ankle locking fun(especially if you and your buddys create characters loosely based on yourselves excepy ya know tough too :-) )

UFC FIGHTING - AS REAL AS IT GETS, July 6, 2002

I think this game is great for any UFC or MMA fan. For those who want a fighting game like Tekken or DOA you might be disapointed. This is a reality based fighting game. That means realistic moves and combos. No power ups or weapons. I found that the most fun is playing against other UFC fans. They have a lot of current and legendary UFC fighters but I just have one question about the game. WHERE'S RANDY CONTURE? I don't see how the could have made this game without him. Overall its fun to step into the octagon. At least rent it, its worth a look.
