Amazon.co.uk Preview: James Bond is back--in cinemas in Die Another Day and on consoles in NightFire--and ready to endorse a bottle of vodka near you. But games companies are weird. It’s the 40th anniversary of the first James Bond movie this year, and Die Another Day, the 20th film to feature the lovable old womanizing drunk, is out at Christmas. So what does EA, proud bearer of the 007 games license, do? They make a game based on an amalgamation of all the Bond movies, with their own "original" storyline, then go and stick Pierce Brosnan’s face and a bunch of clips from Die Another Day in it. Whaaaa?

Bizarre marketing decisions aside, this looks like it could finally be the game to come out from behind the shadow of the seminal N64 classic GoldenEye. Which means, of course, that this is a stealthy first-person shooter (with a few car-racing levels thrown in for good measure) bolted onto a cracking multiplayer mode. Following GoldenEye is a bit like being asked to make Citizen Kane 2, but EA has sensibly gone back to the spirit of the original, and NightFire is much more strategic than their last attempt, the rather shallow Agent Under Fire. Once again you can learn a pathological hatred of security cameras as you use an even wider array of Q gadgetry to kill people without them even noticing.

The multiplayer mode is also looking good, with some much meatier weapons than last time, including a particularly fun remote-control missile launcher. People are always crooning about nobody doing it better than Bond, but in the gaming world that’s not always been true; with this game, though, it looks like he’s taken the ejector seat straight to the top of the first-person shooting pile. --David Jenkins

Living like 007., December 5, 2002

This game is nothing short of awesome. If you old-school, N64 gamers remember the "007 Goldeneye" and remember the fun had there, you can relate to how much fun a multiplayer game can be. This is definitely a must buy for anyone who likes the first person (with vehicles, I might add) strategy games.

it's horrible if it's almost like Goldeneye why sell it??? Golden Eye is 11 bucks so if this is so "great" why compare it 2 an 11 dollar game?(luckily its durable so that u can give it 9 month old baby's like my cousin)at least u can use it that way

An awesome game sets new level of play, December 1, 2002
Reviewer: Justin Meyer from Freeland, MI United States
First of all this game DOES have multi-player. The multi player in this game is awesome there are up to 4 AI-bots you can add to face or play against you and you also control how strong they are such as health and accuracy. There are two teams in multi player, the good guys MI6 and the bad Phoenix. With that two teams can play in modes such as capture the flag, team arena, king of the hill, and protect modes where a team has to keep the other away from a satellite which is in there base so that the other team doesn't blow it up. Also add in mini helicopters and tanks which you can control and a weapon called Ronin which opens up into an auto machine gun. Also the levels you can play in are HUGE. So this is an awesome multi player game if that is what you want.

Now not to forget the 1 player mode which has a great story line. The levels include breaking into a castle to spy on a meeting, escaping on an armored snowmobile, driving the Vanquish, a submarine level where the vanquish turns into a sub, and a space level where you have to disarm huge missiles before they launch. Lots a cool gadgets can also be used.

Ok well this game has graphics that are almost unreal because they are so good. Tons of weapons such as explosives machine guns pistols bows, mines and sniper rifles and a laser gun. And also gadgets such as a watch laser which recharges itself a stunner, and other gadgets.

So to sum it up this is a truly awesome game and I highly recommend it. I hope this review was helpful.

Night Fire is one of the best games for ps2. It's much better then all the bond games including golden eye. Here is what's so cool about the game

The Graphics are awesome and every environment is nicely rendered, and the cut scenes kick ...

Enemies are much smarter and faster on the draw not to mention they look great!

There are over 20 guns to choose from each with its own strong point. There are pistols, uzies, assault rifles, guided rockets, and high tec laser weaponry!

Over 15 different Q gadgets, like a Q grapple, security decrepter, laser watch and a set of car keys that fire a stun bolt!

Although the game is a little short you'll never get tired of playing because the is so much to unlock in each level, not to mention, it's just fun to play.

Multie player is a blast you can play with up to 4 AI bots and 4 human players. You can customize bots from there health to their accuracy. The multie player levels are huge and you'll never get board of playing!

You want an awesome game by James Bond Nightfire.

A very entertaining game, but too short for it's own good., November 30, 2002

OVERALL (4/5): Like I said, this game is extremely fun and surprisingly addictive, but you'll find that if you really get into it, you could beat it in a day or two, no problem.

GRAPHICS (4/5): As far as graphics go on this game, they're spectacular. Although they're not as good as, let's say Ratchet and Clank, for a first-person shooter, this game looks great. The best part is James Bond himself. It's uncanny how much it resembles Pierce Brosnan. The movies are also stellar.

GAMEPLAY (5/5): By far, the best part of Nightfire. It much improves on last year's Agent Under Fire. It resembles Nintendo 64's Goldeneye in many ways. In other matters, the controls are MUCH better than Agent Under Fire. EA Games went back to the classic first-person-shooter controls, instead of just one stick to move Bond around.

SOUND (3.5/5): The sound is still high quality, I just gave it a lower grade because it dosen't play the classic Bond tune when you achieve a Bond move like Agent Under Fire did. But, Bond music is still in abundance in Nightfire, and the voice acting is top-notch, even though you can tell that it's not Pierce Brosnan or Judi Dench as M.

VALUE (2.5/5): This is where the game suffers the most. There is a total of 12 missions on Nightfire. It sounds like plenty at first, but when you start playing it, you realize that it's not going to last long. Although you can set the difficulty on Operative, Agent or 00 Agent, the missions still aren't all that hard. Then, you can always go for the gold and platinum medals which might take you a while, but other than that, there's not a ton of replay value. But, the only reason I give the value rating a passing grade is because the multiplayer is TERRIFIC. There are tons of games you can play with up to 4 players and AI bots. That was great.

This Is Not a Violent Game It Rocks, November 29, 2002

This game is very easy and fun to play. When I got it My mom almost threw it away but she let me play it once and watched it, She found out it was not violent or graphic at all. It is more action and stratagey then anything else. You cant just run into a room with guns firing in all directions, u usauly have to use strategy to take out a few guys alone to increase your chance. Once Again "this is not a mindless shotting, violeant game at all" (My parents) I gave this game a great rating only because it deserved it, it is a great addition to the sereies of great 007 games.

Much better than Agent Under Fire. Ranks right up there with GoldenEye, especially in terms of the multiplayer.

The Best Bond Game to Date, November 28, 2002
Reviewer: A gamer from Lake Placid, New York USA
This game is truly amazing. It has superb graphics, excellent levels, and a magnificent story line. James Bond looks almost exactly like Pierce Brosnan. I suggest to any Bond fans that you buy this game. And I also recommend it to newcomers who haven't yet experienced the James Bond series.

This game has some suggestive themes and has mild violence. (People can get shot, but there is no blood.)
