Amazon.com Review: Dear Peter Jackson and company: Please accept this thank-you for making the last couple of weeks feel like Christmas. Your game The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is such an unbelievable treat that we've been playing it nonstop. Every person who has seen the spectacular graphics agrees: whereas others may have created a crappy movie tie-in game, you folks have made a game that captivates and frustrates us in all the right ways. It was especially nice of you to let us play as either Aragorn, Gimli, or (our favorite) Legolas. Having the actors--including Sir Ian!--voice all the battle cries really makes a huge difference. The first time we got to unlock one of the video extras (an interview with Elijah Wood), we thought, "This is as much fun as eating candy."

We apologize for the rumor that seems to be sweeping game sites--we're not sure how it got started. There's no way to play the game in four hours, unless maybe you set it on "easy," but probably not even then. (We are playing through with all three characters, of course.) Maybe Diablo fans are unimpressed with the skimpy inventory management, but we think that's just nitpicking. But don't think we write fan mail every day! There are some things we would have done differently: while we like movie scenes interspersed with game scenes, we are really tired of watching some of the intro cinematics over and over again. And why can't we trade in some of the skills we bought for new ones? By level 9, we really wished we had bought differently. And what was the deal with the ending--couldn't afford the real actor's voice for the final scene? That seemed distinctly out of character with the rest of the game.

But we love being able to tear into a crowd of Orcs, as well as the nuances of certain timed and more strategic missions. While it may not be a game we play repeatedly once we're done, we'll treasure the fond memories of the time we had together. As with everything associated with LotR, the magic touch for fans is in the details. It's great to look into the stream in Fangorn and pick out the reflection of Treebeard; we wish every game got it the way this one does. Thanks again for your terrific title.

Best wishes,
The Amazon.com Video Game Editors

This is an awsome game! It is tons better than the first one. The Felloship of the ring is one of the stupidus games I have ever played. You can only be Gandalf, Frodo, and Aragorn. But on this game you can be the cool guys Legalos, Aragorn, and Gimli. The levels are awsome. The first ones are from the Fellowship and the last ones are from the Two Towers. THe charachaters weapons which you upgrade along the course of the game are awsome. If you don't have this game you have to get it.

This game has amazing graphics and it is really fun. The charicters face and bodies are exactly like the the faces in the movies. The game play is amazing with real battles from the movie. There are exrta feature such as making the game and seaces from the next movie. There are three characters you can play with and upgadeable weapons and moves. This game is amazing and really fun to play.

Great Game! In this game you actually get to play the movie. There are movie scenes after battles with great transitions from CGI to movie. Gives you a sneak peek at The Two Towers film. Has tons of extra features, just like a DVD. Focuses on the battles for ultimate fun. And great player fighting controls and techniques put you in the middle of FOTR and TTT's(Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers for those who aren't ringers)great battles. Does lose some depth because it's only the fights, but who cares when the fighting is so much fun.

Wow, this is an amazing game!!, November 26, 2002

Note to parents: You do not have to worry if you think that this game is too gory. The game is not gory at all. There is not a drop of blood shown in the game, so I think that anyone who has seen the movie can play the game.

When I first heard of the game I saw it on a commercial on T.V. I asked my mom for the game and a PS2 to play it on for my birthday.

When I first tried it out I was dazzled by the graphics. The graphics actually looked like the real movie. I got so into the game that I played for the next four hours. You can play as Aragon, Legolas, or Gimli. Legolas is very quick with his two knives and is a sharp shooter with his bow. Gimli is very strong and can take down an enemy with his mighty axe, but he is not very quick. Aragorn is more of a combination of the two. With a sword in his hand Aragorn can start a slaughter of orcs.

As you venture through the levels gaining experience points, fighting tougher orcs, learning sweet new moves, earning interviews with the actors, and gaining photos from the movie as your favorite character of the three, you will realize how amazing this game really is.

If you ask my advice of who to be (Aragorn, Legolas or Gimli) I think that you should be Legolas. I think so because Legolas is the fastest character of the three. He shoots arrows like lightning, he strikes with his knives faster than any character, and can use more powerful attacks faster than any of the three.

This game is worth every penny you spend on it. Oh, parents, do not be surprised if after your child has played the game for a little while that he will want the LOTR action figures!

This game looks beautiful, it has extremely fluid controls, and talk about an onslaught of enimies. My only knock is you can beat the game with all 3 players in like 12hrs. But don't let that stop you from getting it, I does have replay value, as well as some pretty cool interviews with actors etc. Easily the best straight up hack and slash with some skill inbetween game I have played a 5 out of 5

Very Good Game, A bit Short, November 23, 2002

This is an awsome game! This game is perfect for any fan of the movie series. this game easily blows the Fellowship Of The Ring out of the water. The game is very similar to Dynasty Warriors 2 and 3. You simply pick to play as Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli. You then go through a level normally killing about 300 enemies and face one huge boss at the end. Each level (17 in all) has a boss at the end. The bosses are very easy to defeat if you know the correct way of beating them. Each one requires a different strategy. The game has very good graphics, some of the best I have seen on the PS2 I might add. Once you beat the level you are awarded experience points, that you can use to purchase combos, new axes or bows, or even extra armor.

The only downside however is the fact that you can beat the game with one character in about 6 hours. So 3X6=18 hours of gameplay. But you can play longer to unlock new scenes from the film and interveiws with the cast. Overall, it is a must buy for any fan!

Short and shallow., November 23, 2002

Well, you fight some stuff, then fight some stuff, then fight some stuff. Doesn't follow the story at all. No puzzles, no adventure, no nothing except combat the whole way through - which is only five hours if you're lucky. Graphically it looks nice - well, except the character models are horrible. This is just an arcade slasher with the Tolkien name on it. No real substance.

LOTR: The Two Towers is simply a blast. It is an action packed romp right smack dab through the middle of Middle Earth. The game pretty much closely follows the action scenes through the first and second movies of New Line's cinematic adaptation of the Tolkien trilogy. A player starts out as Isildur battling the Orc minions(much like the opening scene of Fellowship of the Ring). Then you move on to the various battle scenes in Fellowship and in the new movie The Two Towers.

The game is an all out action game with charaters having a short range weapon (Aragorn-sword, Legolas- Knives, and Gimli- Battle Axe) as well as a long ranged attack(Aragorn and Legolas- Bows and Gimli- hand held throwing hatchets). You basically fight full speed through hordes and hordes of Orcs, Uruk-Hai, and Trolls. There are some bosses along the way, but the bulk of the battle is against Sauron's footsoldiers.Do not expect any food gathering, strategy, or exploration. This is not an RPG in any form or fashion. It is a pure mission based game much like Devil May Cry(only set in Middle Earth). If you buy the game knowing this then you should be in for a great treat.

GRaphics- The graphics are stunning. The character models look great(faces are not THAT great), the enemies look just like the Orcs and Uruk-Hai in the movie, and the backgrounds are lavish as well. Even when over 50 objects are fighting on screen there is absolutley no slowdown. I have not seen a PS2 game yet that can produce as many on screen enemies without slowdown. Simply a Beautiful game. The cut scenes are great as well as the story flows from movie to game almost seamlessly.

Gameplay-- Wonderful if you like intense upgradeable hand-to-hand combat. There are many combos to perform, and a player learns more as the game goes on.

*The only drawback to this game is its length. Some gamers have reported beating this game in one setting. I just don't see how. I am a seasoned gamer, and I have played this game for two weeks and cannot beat it. I think those people are playing on the "easy" setting, which I do not recommend. Anyways, if you like Tolkien, the movies, and great action/combo hack em' ups then go purchase this game today.

**I almost forgot to mention that the game has probably 15 minutes or more of movie footage, interviews, and other unlockables as well as a secret level and character that you can unlock. I need a holiday Gandalf.....a long Holiday!
