Amazon.com Product Description: While exploring some ancient ruins on a forbidden island off the coast, Jak's best friend, Daxter, is knocked into a vat of Dark Eco--a terrifying and deadly substance that could corrupt the world forever--transforming him into a weasel-like rodent. The village sage, Samos Hagai, tells Jak that there's only one person who holds the secrets to transforming Daxter back. Now the pair must set out on a quest in search of a wise old sage who has the power to restore Daxter to his former self.

Plunge into a world of adventure, exploration, and discovery. Embark on a magical, often harrowing journey that challenges gamers to test their wits and skills, allowing them to discover twisted plots and battle the evil within. Delivering nothing but the best ingredients for a game that's set to be one of the biggest titles of the year, Jak and Daxter features great character designs and animations, innovative gameplay mechanics, superior technology, and absolutely stunning graphics. Jak and Daxter pushes the power of the PlayStation2, offering an engaging, immersive entertainment experience that stretches the imagination.

Amazon.co.uk: The PS2 is finally getting its fair share of platform games, and Jak and Daxter is a corker. Following the adventures of the yellow-haired Jak and his wisecracking sidekick Daxter (newly transformed into a rodent, and not happy about it), the game is a free-roaming 3-D adventure, very much along the lines of the N64's Banjo-Kazooie, only less irritating. The gameplay, while not breaking any new ground, is perfectly polished and diverse enough to keep the interest high throughout. The main body of the game involves running, jumping, and spinning around the world collecting orbs and power cells and bashing enemies, but there are also racing, fishing, and sliding bits, and all are very well done.

The game's seamless world allows you to move between areas and missions pretty much at will; there are no loading times whatsoever, a lesson that the latest Crash Bandicoot game would have done well to learn. What's more, the irritation of having to restart levels and collect everything again if you lose all your energy is mercifully absent here. The graphics are truly scrumptious and the sound lush--and, much to our surprise, the script is good and the characterization and voice acting not half bad. It's not quite as amusing and cleverly thought out as Rare's aforementioned N64 stalwart--or the company's more recent Conker's Bad Fur Day--but it's pretty close.

The downsides? It's maybe a bit too easy for seasoned gamers--though by no means a cinch--and the magnificent graphics have eaten up memory that might have been used to make the game longer. As tradeoffs go, though, it's pretty reasonable. Bring on the sequel! --Rikki Price

Awsome game!!!, December 5, 2002

I have played this at a friend's house and it ROCKS. I could play it for hours and I probably would if I had it. You can go to many different places to find precusor orbs and power cells. Jak doesn't talk at all but Daxter more than makes up for it. He is hilarious. He is full of insults and comments that will have you rolling in the floor laughing. This game has great grapics and awsome game play. I would totally recomend this game to someone. I am getting it for Christmas! Yes!!![...]

This game is one of the better ones out there. You will want to buy a guide for this game, but you'll find it still is very difficult to master. You can tell the makers of this game made Crash Bandicoot.

Jak and Daxter:For All PS2 Owners, December 4, 2002

Believe it or not, this is one of the best games you can find. Naughty Dog, the company that made the Crash Bandicoot games, made this game, so you can expect it would be great. I will not tell you the plot because that might ruin the story.

Graphics: Nine and a half stars: It's hard to find as colorful graphics as you find in Jak and Daxter.
Sound: Ten stars: The sound is pretty fun and humorous at most times and with Daxter around, you could get some laughs.
Replay Value: Eight and a half stars: Not the best of any game you could find, but enough to have you playing again from time to time.
Gameplay: Nine and a half stars: It's hard not to have a great time when playing this fantastic game.
Overall: 9.5 stars!
Bottom Line: GET THIS GAME IF YOU HAVE PS2!

Excellent game - wide audience range, December 2, 2002

Jak and Daxter is a terrific game. I held on to my money until this title made the "Greatest Hits" collection. Even then, I left it in the shrink wrap for a month. Once I got hooked on it, it has easily become one of my favorite PS2 titles.

For starters, the graphics are really "stunning." That isn't the usual stunning claim that boils down to squint and imagine. It's stunning that delivers a feeling of emersion. I think the secret here is the cartoon styled world. Simpler bitmaps means more attention to other details - like making a borderless world. The main characters are able to jump a few "mile high" vertical jumps that prove this point. You get a birds eye view of the world and it looks incredible.

The game is admittedly simple. There are a few platform routines that require dexterity or a lot of patience. But generally, it's a balanced game without too much frustration. It certainly has enough going on to hold the interest of a parent or a child.

It also does a good job of elaborating on the same theme and style without necessarily copying it. If you've played Dark Cloud, then you know exactly how badly this can be done. That is, in Dark Cloud, the difference between level a and level b is the color of the sword. Fortunately, Jak and Daxter is the posterchild for keeping it lively. It's not the most extensive game, but you get a lot of quality for what's there.

Great game. If you like the genre, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Addictive and awesome!, December 2, 2002

The first PS2 game I had bought and was able to finish without a walkthrough or guide book. The game revolves around you, Jack. And your best friend Daxter who was pushed into the dark-eco and turned into a weasle-type creature.

Your mission in the game is to collect pre-cursors which you can find just about everywhere and use them to buy these orbs that you will require to reach new worlds. You must battle your way up to stop the main villians from taking over the world with dark-eco! The fighting is awesome! Your in total control and will have loads of fun with the combo attacks you and Daxter can do. Accomplishing trivival tasks for villagers will earn you orbs as well, and you need all the orbs you can get. The start-menu will show you all that you've missed, what you need to get and where, the levels you've been to; ect. It's a short game if you know what your doing and it really turned me onto PS2. Dont listen to these reviewers trying to scare you and tell you how hard it is, because it's not! It's actually 'perfect'. Not too hard, not too easy- the only disapointment is the way the game ends. But everything in bewteen beginning and end 'iz all good!!

The music is good (could be better) because it can get annoying after a while so I recommend you break out those CDs and down the volume ALL-the-way down on your TV to get you in the mood while you play! Also I had wished that the main villians in the game would have been more difficult to beat, because they're almost too easy.

But all-in-all the game is all-out pure PS2 fun! 3 out of 5 (due to the obvious that I have explained)
But the strange and interesting characters, comic-relief, battle-goodness, and just the game's plot in general. You'll fall in love with it! The graphics are amazing and like I've said before your battle abilities are a mayjor TURN-ON!

This is a MUST-HAVE for all PS2 gamers.

One of platforming's best, November 30, 2002

This is not a game for everyone as the oh-so-modest Austrailian has demonstrated, but for those of you who loves Mario, and found yourself picking up the first Crash Bandicoot to play it when Playstation couldn't come up with anything else original. This is the game for you. This is a pure platformer and is perfect for those of us who think there is no such thing as an "intelligent" video game.

Kind of hard., November 26, 2002

Jak and Daxter is a very fun adventure game. It may get hard at times, but it's still fun. I highly reccomend this game.

Yawn! Boring!, November 23, 2002
Reviewer: Deathwatch Ogier from Australia
This game shows off the PS2's graphical prowess, or what passes for graphical prowess on a PS2. The controls are very easy to pick up, and if you don't demand anything from your games then this will probably satisfy you. However, I found that collecting power cells and eco was a tedious task rather beneath someone of my intellectual stature. The physics of the game were astoundingly poor; who ever heard of a "double jump"? Even on the moon, with its unique gravity, Neil Armstrong was unable to do a double jump, and so the suggestion that a spiky-haired cartoon character can transcend the laws of physics is both preposterous and offensive.

Furthermore, it has been noted in countless reviews that Daxter, the sidekick, is not irritating, and even perhaps amusing. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong! You plebians know nothing! Daxter is the Newman of video games characters, the annoying sidekick that you hope will go away but never does.

In conclusion, the game looks nice, plays nice, but is ultimately boring and undeserving of my attention. Go play Dynasty Warriors or SSX Tricky instead!

THE BEST PLATFORMER EVER!, November 23, 2002
Reviewer: Burke Schneider from Lancaster, OH USA
This is the best platformer of all time. Simply put, no other game can contend with this games replayabilty, graphics and loading time. You can easily pump out 45+ hours of gameplay without beating all of it. The graphics are super and the water effects are supreme. The air flows thorough the characters hari, giving them an unsurpassed life likeness. You never, ever experience any loading times. All this for only $$$. You cannot beatthe price considering over 800,000 humans paid $$$ for it. I highley recomend this game as it is perfect for younger children and adults alike.
